Summary/Abstract: This report analyzes the development of the political crisis in Kyrgyzstan, the outbreak of which following the parliamentary elections on 4th October 2020 raised questions about the geopolitical future of the small Central Asian country. Kyrgyzstan has always been strategically located in Central Asia and, despite its lack of significant energy resources, is an island of pluralism surrounded by authoritarian regimes. And until recently, an example of political stability. The present report tries to reveal the hidden reasons leading to the escalation of the political crisis and the ensuing civil unrest that shook the country. Until recently, Kyrgyzstan was thought to have left behind „color“ revolutions that ousted two senior presidents in five years and forced a new constitution in 2010. But this turns out to be a dangerous illusion. The possible variants for changing the geopolitical orientation of the country in the context of the contradictions of the main geopolitical players in the region are studied.
