Summary/Abstract: The increasingly rapid progress and development of technology calls into question the status and role of the individual in modern society. We are witnessing rapid social changes and evident globalization, but also the complete alienation of individuals, as a consequence of insufficiently developed intercultural competences. The paper deals with the consideration of the importance of student's intercultural competences on the quality of their future life, and therefore the development of the nation's culture. The role of the school, in addition to providing knowledge, should also be the preparation of students for life in modern society. Absence of prejudices, willingness to change, tolerance, the ability to peacefully resolve conflicts and all other skills for peaceful coexistence with different cultures, should be a priority in the educational system. Family and school are key factors in children's development, which directly affects the creation and development of future society. In order to respond adequately to the challenges of the 21st century, it is necessary to develop adaptive abilities of students as well as the ability to learn quickly and solve problems. The paper looks at the responsibilities of educators, as well as specific examples of improving the aforementioned competencies in teaching.
