Summary/Abstract: The ‘Space Age’ started with the launching of the first artificial Earth satellite ‘Sputnik-1’ into the space by the Soviet Union in 1957. The bipolar world order during the Cold War had its effects over the space studies as well, especially between the two super powers, namely; the United States (U.S.) and the Soviet Union (USSR). That is why, the Cold War led to the emergence of ‘Space Race’ between Moscow and Washington. Following the end of the Cold War, many new states (China, India etc.) also joined the scramble in the space in addition to two already existing great powers. In that sense, the emphasis on space studies increased considerably in the 21st century.
