Summary/Abstract: French language of Louisiana, often called Cajun French or Louisiana French, is used mainly by the inhabitants of Acadiana (the south of Louisiana in the United States) or the descendants of the Louisiana diaspora in Texas. It is generally thought that the language originates from a colony in Acadia, whose inhabitants arrived in Louisiana in the 18th century. In fact, the situation is more complicated. French language of Louisiana is derived from many languages. Certainly, the descendants of the exiles from Acadia contributed to publicising the situation of the French language and commencing important reforms. The story of French language in Louisiana is similar to the story of other inherited languages and is subject to the same processes. It appears that a sidelined language can be saved and can unify peole. The article aims to track initiatives (family, political, administrative, institutional and didactic), which gave this language importance and helped to raise the awareness of its users. Perhaps it may be an inspiring example to the Polish diaspora in France.
