Summary/Abstract: The subject of this article is the novel "Sehnsucht ins Reich" (1933) by Willibald Köhler, which is interpreted in terms of the meaning that the fairy tale plays in it. The analysis focuses on the question of Upper Silesian identity, illustrated by “The Strange King’s Tale…” It shows that the writer creates in the novel a vague identity that does not lend itself to national categorisation.
