Summary/Abstract: The article presents basic information about the structure and function- ing of the heart, an organ of the human body that has received numerous symbolic interpretations and is an area of interest not only to specialists in the field of medical sciences (anatomists, radiologists, physiologists), but also to representatives of the humanities (e.g. philosophy, cultural studies) or theology. By comparing the human heart with the hearts of other animals, pointing out the differences between the heart of a man and a woman, and showing what a complicated, sophisticated and complex mechanism the human heart is, the author appeals to give it special care in everyday life.
