Summary/Abstract: The publication of the Vilnius volume of Adam Mickiewicz’s Poetry coincides with the fading of the liberal press in Warsaw, published mainly by Bruno Ki- ciński. These circumstances prompt us to reflect on the relationship between Warsaw ‘liberalism’ and Vilnius ‘romanticism’ as being separate writing phenomena of the 1820s, albeit not isolated from each other, which emerged under different political conditions and produced specific forms of communication, conceptual frameworks and images.
