The Situation of Persons with Mental Disabilities and the Law on their Protection

Summary/Abstract: It has been almost a year since the adoption of the Law on the Protection of Persons with Mental Disorders. Although the Citizens’ Ombudsman and civil society activists had alerted in time and to the point to the draft’s many shortcomings, what prevailed was the stance – shared even by some international organizations – that no matter what having any law was better than having none. Intent not to comment on this any further, we believe the time has come to broach the Law’s amendment.
