Summary/Abstract: „As long as the people are unenlightened, of all the arts, the cinema and the circus are the most important for us!“ exclaims the leader of the Bolshevik Revolution, Vladimir Lenin, and unlike almost everything else he has done or said, he is absolute right in this case. There is a consensus that cinema is the greatest art of the 20th century, but also a media phenomenon with an astounding mass effect that has changed people’s lives around the world. The media influence of the cinema is also about to become a key element of the propaganda of the new totalitarian and authoritarian regimes that came to power in Europe in the 1930s.
