Summary/Abstract: World War II caused great destruction in Europe. European cities were destroyed and Europe’s economic and human capital was greatly damaged. The idea of forming a union was born in order to re-establish the European balance of power and ensure permanent peace and economic cooperation in Europe. The Treaty of Rome was signed on 25 March 1957, establishing the European Economic Community (EEC) and the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom). The aim was the integration and development of Europe in economic, political and social fields.
