Summary/Abstract: The present work proposes an analysis and an interpretation of what the fire element means in the poetic terrain of Gheorghe Grigurcu. The poetic imaginary is formed with the origin of the primordial elements: fire, water, air, and earth, representing the instrument that will help us enter the world of meanings of Gheorghe Grigurcu’s creation. Fire is, says Heraclitus, the element that generates and consumes everything. In the lyric work of the poet Grigurcu, fire is a symbol and a motive at the same time. The meaning of fire includes, in addition to the known qualities of revenge, hatred, punishment or beneficence, and transformation, regeneration preceded by destruction. Gaston Bachelard demonstrates that all types of imagination bear the mark of material elements. In Introduction to the Theory of Literature, Gheorghe Crăciun insists on the fact that the symbol cannot contain the entire reality in its substance. The symbol, in our case - of fire, stylizes some aspects of reality and can emphasise or even eliminate others precisely to capture an even deeper meaning of the element in poetic creation. The imaginary includes psychological elements that represent the creation of the human mind, represented by symbols 574 and images, senses, and conceptions. Fire is the centre of a reverie that often creates the mood and poetic inspiration found in Gheorghe Grigurcu’s poetry. Once this primordial element has entered the universe of poetic creation, fire is transformed into metaphor.
