Summary/Abstract: Neo-liberalism as a political-economic doctrine and an ideology promotes globalization as world economic integration based on unfettered free trade. In a more extensive discourse, neo-liberalism is often equated with globalization. However, some of the eminent globalization theoreticians, for instance J. A. Scholte, U. Beck or M. Steger, point out that a neo-liberal standpoint on globalization is only one of the possible viewpoints, but also the most dominant and the most widespread when understanding globalization. Therefore, as Scholte points out, neo-liberal ideas of globalization gained widespread acceptance as commonsense .
