Autor przedstawia, jak wynalazek roweru mógł stać się inspiracją dla Herberta George’a Wellsa w jego powieściach fantastycznych Wojna światów i Wehikuł czasu oraz jak angielski pisarz prezentuje bicykl jako pojazd doskonały. EN: The end of the nineteenth century was the era of a bicycle craze, of cycling madness, when this two-wheeled vehicle became an object of desire for the middle class, and for writers – as a technological innovation – offered inspiring food for thought and inspired reflections about the future, fascinating readers like the steam engine and the invention of the light bulb. The author shows how the invention of the bicycle would become an inspiration for H.G. Wells in his fantasy novels War of the Worlds and The Time Machine, and how this English writer presents the bicycle as a perfect vehicle.
