Summary/Abstract: PL: David Byrne w Dziennikach rowerowych (2011) przygląda się codziennej krzątaninie ludzi zamieszkujących największe miasta świata. Nie poprzestaje jednakże na powierzchownym zapisie toczącego się życia w Buenos Aires czy Londynie. Próbuje uczytelnić figurę losu wynikającą z obranej drogi życiowej – snucia się, oplatania wokół idei, miejsc, ludzi, zapętlania i zataczania kół. Rower jest tu pretekstem do rozważań nad statusem współczesnego artysty poszukującego swej podmiotowości oraz epifanijnej natury rzeczy. Książka Byrne’a przekracza ramy konwencji opisu podróżniczego. Autorka udowadnia, że rowerowy dukt narzuca mówienie o czasoprzestrzeni (liniowym i kolistym rozplanowaniu tras) i wpływa na kształt artystycznych obszarów poszukiwań formy (stylu i wzorców gatunkowych) dla tych ideowych rozpoznań. EN: In his Bicycle Diaries (2011), David Byrne takes a look at the daily bustle of people living in the largest cities around the world. He does not stop, however, at a superficial record of life being lived in Buenos Aires or London. He attempts make legible the image of fate that results from one’s chosen path in life – which winds, revolving around ideas, places, people, looping and going in circles. The bicycle here is a pretext to consider the status of the contemporary artist in search of his subjectivity and the epiphanic nature of things. Byrne’s book goes beyond the conventions of travel descriptions. The author proves that the bicycle’s path forces us to talk about space and time (the linear and circular layout of the route) and affects the shape of artistic explorations of forms (styles and genre patterns) for these ideological diagnoses.
