Summary/Abstract: These thoughts are a reflection upon the writings of András Bíró, Nicolae Gheorghe and Martin Kovacs. But they are also a response to views expressed during the two days of debate among participants at the workshop. The authors who initiated the interactive creation of this book have put forward insightful and challenging views. Like András Bíró, in his preface to the edited account of the workshop discussions, I do not see the purpose of this book as producing a straightforward ‘answer’ to the multiple and complex problems confronting roma. Instead the authors intended to open up a further debate or series of debates as a way of clarifying what might be the most productive strategies for roma and those concerned with issues surrounding them. I hope that this book will stimulate critical reflection and, following this, encourage incisive action.
