Summary/Abstract: This article aims to analyse Eclogue III by Nemesianus, a poet of Carthage, whose bucolic poetry of the 3rd century AD exemplifies late antique literary aesthetics founded upon imitatio and aemulatio. The article draws attention to an interesting aspect of the Eclogue: the way in which two apparently contradictory elements are combined – the Dionysian and the Apollonian – and the mood based on the antithesis between musica and rumor.
