Summary/Abstract: The 1943 is for Italy a year of change. In July fascism fell, while on the 8th of September the new government signed an unconditional armistice with the Allies. At the same time, the peninsula lost its political unity and came to be, as it had been before the Risorgimento, a battleground for foreign armies. The Polish II Corps arrived in Italy in the late fall of 1943, showing great solidarity with the civilian population, assuming more and more demanding military duties, often in collaboration with Italian soldiers and partisans.
