Summary/Abstract: The topic of this paper is based on the fact that the ranking procedure of higher education institutions requires a thorough and systematic process, due to the fact that higher education institutions are specific institutions of a service nature. European systems of higher education (countries signatory to the Bologna Declaration), as well as increasing competition in the market for the provision of higher education services, impose the need to rank higher education institutions. The ranking of higher education institutions aims to recognize quality in the function of higher education. The research problem was discussed and solved based on various criteria using the Expert Choice software. The application of the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) as a decision-making tool in the field of higher education is based on different indicators, with comparable criteria. The paper presents the selection of the best alternative and a hierarchical presentation of the ranking level. The hierarchical display of the ranking level was done by separating the more significant attributes from the less significant ones within four higher education institutions. The analysis included four higher education institutions in the territory of the city of Belgrade, from the Republic of Serbia.
