Summary/Abstract: The global financial crisis of 2008 re-opened the discussion of the causes and possible preventative measures of its origin. Generally this means that it will not be possible to prevent a crisis in the future, but we can study its nature and mechanics. By establishing proper rules and regulatory instruments it will be possible to prevent rising imbalance in the economy and minimize the consequences of a crisis. One of the causes of the latest crisis was the extraordinary pressure of profitability on financial institutions. Traditional banking services in a period of globalization and increasing competitions were not able to achieve acceptable levels of profitability.
