Summary/Abstract: There is considerable literature pointing out the male-dominated structure of Kurdish society in which women’s problems have never been prioritized (Mojab 2001, Bruinessen 2001, Alinia 2004, Gambetti 2005); yet there is still limited number of research on Kurdish women’s problems. The existing studies focus on the ostensible (de jure) empowerment they gained, particularly among immigrant/diasporic Kurds. However, the lack of empowerment in practice generally sustains even if they acquire immigrant status or formal citizenship status in the West.
