Summary/Abstract: The article interprets Narcyza, a novel by young Zofia Nałkowska, in the context of the title phenomenon of narcissism. Thanks to the analysis of the important modernistic phenomenon in the aspect of psychoanalysis, one can notice that the heroine’s escape into her own “I” is not only characteristic of introspective escapism, but it also might have its sources in interpersonal relations, in particular in an early adolescent disorder of the basic relations with the mother – the primary object.
