Summary/Abstract: The article Memory and Affection interprets Iwona Chmielewska’s Dopóki niebo nie płacze in the context of the liminal metaphor. Despite the fact that a work of art cannot become a liminal situation per se, it can simulate it by artistic engagement and multidimensionality, thus enabling the reader to have an insight into the existential dimension of his/her life. Chmielewska’s original illustrations, the poems for children by Czechowicz placed in a new context, together with recently discovered pre-war photographs by, most probably, Abram Zylberberg, invite the reader to participate in an intriguing game of memory, anticipation and personal involvement, both affective and intellectual.
