Summary/Abstract: This article is the second part of a study devoted to the rethoric and function of Adam Mickiewicz’s annotations to his poetic works – Konrad Wallenrod (1828) and Part III of Dziady (1832). These works evocatively connect history and current politics, and their annotations continue and further develop Mickiewicz’s strategies from his earlier poetic works. In the annotations to Konrad Wallenrod, the poet eruditely relates to the historical realities of the depicted world, strenghtening the credibility of the plot and displaying the authority of a refined historian. In the annotations to Part III of Dziady, Mickiewicz supplements literary fiction with accounts of a scholar, political expert, and witness familiar with the realities of the Russian state. Thus, he puts himself in the role of a story-teller commemorating his fellow countrymen’s plight, an analyst exposing the essence of the political system of the tsarist Russia, and a participant of historic events who emphasizes Poland’s historical rationale.
