Summary/Abstract: The author presents the analysis of the concept of shock as an aesthetic category used by T. Adorno in the context of reception of the new music. Referring to Philosophy of the New Music and to Aesthetic Theory the author defines several ways of description and understanding of the shock that can be found in Adorno’s works. At the same time, following the philosopher’s way of thinking, she asks herself if the shock mentioned by Adorno is generally negative, or maybe he can see a kind of rescue in this violent reaction to the new music.
