Summary/Abstract: This paper is dedicated to the economic aspects of the competitiveness in the Bulgarian economy. The research employs TOWS Matrix Analysis as a methodology to analyze the advantages and the challenges to the Bulgarian economy. It reviews country’s performance according to the Global Competitiveness Index. The author reviews the competitiveness of the Bulgarian economy considering the following circumstances – dissatisfactory competitiveness performance according to international indexes and comparative studies; Bulgarian commitments to the EU towards improvement of the competitiveness on a national level; implications of the global financial and economic crisis on the Bulgarian economy.
