Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on the contacts between multicultural societies (Muslims, Eastern and Western Christians) in the age of the first crusades. Based on a 12th century chronicle written by an Arabic nobleman Usama Ibn Munkidh, the author discusses their relations before the crusades. He then explores the influence of legal, religious and medical aspects on social relations and the way of life in multicultural communities. In the conclusion the author examins a question of acculturation phenomenon existing on the Levantine coast in the age of the first crusades.
