Summary/Abstract: Proactive transparency refers to a practice whereby public institutions publish the information they possess on their own initiative. This concept represents substantial progress from the now obsolete approach which rested solely on accessing information based on a specific written request, as is currently regulated by the freedom of access to information laws in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). In contrast to that, proactively published information is available to all citizens, not only those who file for access, which ultimately makes possible a greater degree of public control of the institutions, and the participation of citizens in debates on matters of public interest.
