Summary/Abstract: Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s victory in the presidential election in Sri Lanka (16 November) could lead to an end to the political crisis and improvement in security. However, the likely withdrawal from cooperation with UN bodies seeking accountability for crimes committed during the civil war may worsen Sri Lanka’s relations with the EU and allow China to increase its influence there again.
