Summary/Abstract: In the context of Georgia’s decentralization, the focus is on areas related to the financial management of municipalities. Budget execution (accounting and bookkeeping) and procurement systems are generally common to central and subnational governments. In the context of municipal governance, areas such as budget development and oversight require special attention. Public financial management evaluations have identified several areas that need to be improved. In particular, municipal financial management operations, accounting, and reporting in accordance with international standards and practices are planned as medium-term local-government tasks along with increasing accountability and transparency in municipal public finances.
