Summary/Abstract: Belarus is often called the "country of castles", although it would be more accurate to call it the country of "remnants" of castles. Most of them are in ruins. What should be seen in these ruins? How to treat them? There can be quite a lot of answers to these questions lying in a purely intellectual plane. One of the important answers was given by the Belarusian state, which was approved by the resolution of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus dated January 6, 2011. the state program "Castles of Belarus". News reports of mass media about this event in most cases presented the program (essentially an investment plan) as an effective management move that solves the problem of disappearing national property. The program really looks ambitious. It includes 14 remains of castles of varying degrees of preservation, as well as 19 archaeological sites. And the work started! The ruins of the castles actually began to change. At the same time, the quality and intensity of activities carried out as part of the implementation of this program cause justified criticism from the expert community. In fact, every "castle" project is accompanied by a series of scandals.
