Summary/Abstract: The goal of this analysis is to present the fact that the process of energy transition is not simple and that in the case of BiH it will be extremely painful considering that 70% of the energy in Bosnia and Herzegovina is obtained from fossil fuels and that an entire branch of the economy is linked to mines. brown coal and lignite. When we talk about Elektroprivreda BiH (hereinafter referred to as EPBiH), as a public company that holds primacy in the field of energy in BiH, the long-term development plan of this company foresees the consolidation of all mines in the EPBiH Concern, a total of seven of them, which will lead to positive business and a profit of almost 24 million KM by the end of 2018. What happened at the end of 2018 is that only one of the mines was operating positively, and the other six reached accumulated debt in the amount of 1.4 billion KM. If we add to the total debt, which is even higher at the moment, the certain possibility of paying the CO2 tax, which has been inevitable since BiH joined the Energy Community, we come to the fact that this kind of energy sector is unsustainable, that it is collapsing and poisoning its citizens, which are leaders in the incidence of lung diseases and cancers in Europe.
