Summary/Abstract: The existence of a police component in UN peace operationsis not a novelty. It goes back half a century ago andwas first introduced in the Congo in the 1960’s. Embeddingpolice components in UN missions became moreextensive at the end of the 90’s, when different types ofit (support of country security reforms, advice, monitoringetc.) were incorporated in all UN Security Council approvedmissions after 1999.
