Summary/Abstract: Last year marked a significant crisis for the European energy sector, characterised by an extreme increase in energy prices and disruptions in natural gas supplies from Russia. This was due to the interplay of several circumstances, from an unusually intense drought, the shutdown of a large part of France's nuclear power plants to the Russian war in Ukraine and the use of energy resources as a means of blackmailing the European Union by Russia. In response to the excessive increase in prices and the risk of gas shortages during the winter of 2022/23, a series of short-term measures were adopted during the Czech Presidency to stabilise the situation and ensure the availability of energy.
