Short Description

The PALAEOBULGARICA Journal is the only specialized periodical in the world dedicated to the problems connected with the oldest Slavonic culture – the Old Bulgarian. It publishes research and scientific communications in the field of Bulgarian medieval culture from the creation of the Slav alphabet in the middle of the 9th c. by Sts Cyril and Methodius on the basis of the dialect of the Bulgarian Slavs in the Salonica region up to the epoch of the Bulgarian National Revival (18th c.). The problems of the Bulgarian medieval culture in its various aspects – language, literature, history, arts, etc. re associated in the Journal closely with the cultural development of the other Slav countries during the Middle Ages (Russia, Serbia, Great Moravia, Medieval Poland), of the neighboring Balkan states, and also with the spiritual and cultural phenomena and processes in all Medieval Europe. Special accent is put on the links of the Orthodox Slavic World with Byzantium. Characteristic of the Journal is its interdisciplinary approach. Research in the sphere of all the humanities is published: linguistics, philology, literary history, political history, theology, the arts, archeology, etc. Only original pieces of scholarly research in the fields under review are published, reporting hitherto unknown facts, new methods of research are elaborated, new theoretical generalizations are made. Black-end-white illustrations are also published. Articles by scholars from all parts of the world are brought out in Bulgarian, English, French, German and Russian, the articles in Bulgarian and Russian being accompanied by summaries in English and those in German, English and French have summaries in Bulgarian. The editorial board of PALAEOBULGARICA is made up of eight scholars from Bulgaria, Germany and USA.
