Short Description

Ethos is an international multidisciplinary scholarly quarterly. Its successive monographic volumes address philosophical problems significant to contemporary culture and discuss them in the light of humanities and social sciences. The leading field of study in the case of a majority of articles is philosophy, in particular philosophical anthropology and ethics. The concept of each volume is designed by the Editorial Board. The theme of a particular volume is announced a year before it appears in print. All the research papers (ca. 12-15 per volume) are peer-reviewed following the recommendations of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Poland (double blind peer review). Beginning with Volume 105 all the scholarly articles published in Ethos receive DOIs (in time also the scholarly papers published in the preceding volumes will be given DOIs). Ethos publishes also Polish translations of articles and book excerpts relevant to the leading themes of the particular volumes.

Ethos cooperates with international scholars, in particular from Anglophonic, Italian and German speaking countries. Among international authors who have contributed to Ethos, were: Giovanni Reale, Rocco Buttiglione, Robert Spaemann, Norman Davis, George Weigel, Joseph Ratzinger, Angelo Scola, Josef Seifert, John Crosby, Karl Dedecius, and Adam Potkay, Joel Marks and Masakatsu Fujita, Gerald Beyer, John T. Hamilton.

Currently, due to the growing international character of its readership, the journal accepts also submissions in the congress languages. Papers published in the original language versions are then accompanied by their Polish translations. Ethos has published two Special Editions (in English and German).

The journal comprises the standing columns: “Notes and Reviews” (in which both Polish and international publications are discussed), “Reports” (including reports on academic conferences held both in Poland and abroad), and “Bibliography” (addressing the volume’s theme). Each volume contains also an essay and a feuilleton.

Subscription to the journal may be purchased through our website, and particular, also past, volumes are available in retail sale. Ethos has long-term subscribers, including foreign institutions and private persons. We witness a growing interest in the purchase of individual articles in the electronic version (available at a modest price).
