This past decade, we have been witnessing marked changes in the Slovak theatre, which are more about poetics and the manner of the theatrical production of our time rather than the institutional nature of the theatre. Tappolet (2005) has defended the perceptual account of emotion against a problem which some have raised against it, stemming from the phenomenon of ambivalent emotions. According to Tappolet, we can explain cases of ambivalent emotions unproblematically. To persuade us of this, she draws our attention to circumstances in which it seems entirely appropriate to have conflicting emotions with respect to the same situation. On her perceptual account of emotions, in such situations our emotions disclose two values, e.g., danger and attractiveness, at the same time. My aim here is to defend Tappolet by expanding on the considerations she adduces. In order to do this, I utilize Prinz’s notion of “valence”. Using this terminology, I shall show that the undeniable co-instantiation of emotions that are our intuitions classifies as “contrary”, for example, fear and attraction does not actually constitute a contradiction.

The analysis established that basically acts as a strategy of silence speech marker any opposition between the communicants.

Frequently described as the return or the revenge of the real, the COVID-19 pandemic poses the question of the relation of politics to reality: does politics produce or construct reality that henceforth exists as its effect or does reality rather pose a limit to political practice, serving as a remainder that politics cannot grasp? While the first solution defines a constructivist approach to politics, the second affirms a realist approach. The article offers a reading of Michel Foucault’s methodological introduction to his Birth of Biopolitics lectures that demonstrates how Foucault’s own response to this question oscillated between realism and constructivism before the constructivist tendency arguably prevailed in the work of Foucault’s followers. In conclusion, I address the implications of reconsidering biopolitics from a realist standpoint.

One of the most expressive definitions of philosophy equates it with the field of knowledge about meaningful demarcation of the semantic boundaries of objects, phenomena and trends. In this context, the conceptual distinction between culture and civilization is quite logical, natural, and even irreplaceable. Nevertheless, such a research and interpretive approach acquired fundamental features only at the beginning of the 20th century and mainly within the limits of the German worldview, semantic and axiological hierarchy. The remaining socio-cultural forms of worldview stylistics continued to prefer the symbiotic and synonymous interpretation of social reality’s cultural and civilizational components. The meaningful distinction between culture and civilization has a characteristic feature – a surge of further efforts in this direction is always a consequence of crisis trends in the global world order. In particular, this was the case at the beginning of the 20th century, when the exhaustion of the previous resources of civilizational development and the deepening of contradictions between the main centers of power caused by this factor led to a resolution in the form of the First World War. The second wave of careful attention to the meaningful demarcation of culture and civilization occurred in the 1930s when the tendency of the inability or unwillingness to resolve existing global contradictions led to the situation slipping into the maelstrom of the Second World War. Currently, there is an unequivocal awareness of the inappropriateness of the illusions associated with the global world order formed on the ruins of the Berlin Wall according to the patterns of neoliberalism. The world at the beginning of the third decade of the 21st century feels confused about its inability to respond to the challenges of modernity convincingly and promptly. This state of affairs once again objectively and logically actualizes the interest in a meaningful demarcation of culture and civilization since it is precise with these tools that the answers to the crisis status quo and the prospects for overcoming it are connected. An important task for concretizing this research goal is the cosmological prism of the conceptual demarcation of culture and civilization.

Working from Home (WFH) has become a profound workplace culture in developed and developing countries with a concern whether it should be continued or discontinued. Therefore, the purpose of this paper was to examine the subject of telecommuting and remote work revolution against whether workers are more effective and productive working from home? To accomplish this, a descriptive research design that is multi-perspective in nature and utilizes the content analysis approach was adopted. The paper presented a brief history of teleworking, different remote working platforms, performance of teleworkers, factors affecting performance of remote workers and concluding remarks which embodies recommendations.

The present paper analyses the rules of overriding mandatory provisions in the recent EU regulations on patrimonial effects of marriages and of registered partnerships. These rules are traditionally included in EU regulations on civil judicial cooperation, and their formulation in the twin regulations follows the classic approach. It is submitted that it is not easy to detect national rules satisfying the conditions set therein and overriding mandatory provisions will be barely applicable.
