Research on the relations of the star system of American and European film on an example of Shakespeare’s drama is an insufficiently examined topic. Primarily, in this sense, the dominant phenomenon of creating of the star system and its influence on the development of the film industry. The reasons, methods and techniques for which the Americans used European cultural capital and established the “afi” dominance over the “efi” are intriguing questions that have not yet given concrete answers in the research efforts. Aspects of research that help explain the relationships of the star system should focus onscripting material, camera work in a directorial context and acting performance. One should not forget that in America prevails the opinion about the understanding the film primarily as the industry, which leads to a change in film financing in this country, and deviates from the mecenistic financing model that is still dominant in Europe. The study of the influence of European actors on film development in America, especially in Shakespeare’s dramas that are screened in the original or as an adaptation of the work, is something that rounds the curiosity of research effort.

Rodila sam se u Čikagu, 30. decembra 1946. godine usred vrtloga ogromne snežne mećave. Moj otac je morao da pomaže taksisti pri probijanju sa širo otvorenim prozorom, duž dela autoputa Lejk Šor Drajv, dok se moja mama porađala. Bila sam slabašno (sitnačko) novorođenče pa se moj otac svojski trudio da me održi u životu držeći me na pari iznad korita sa vrelom vodom, kako bih mogla lakše da dišem. Misliću na njih oboje kada budem zakoračila na pozornicu Rivijera Teatra u Čikagu, sa mojim bendom, sinom i ćerkom, na svoj sedamdeseti rođendan.

Achebeov najpoznatiji roman Svijet koji nestaje (Things Fall Apart, 1958.), je priča o narodu Umuofia na rijeci Nigeru, a posebno o Okonkwou, njihovom bogatom i tvrdoglavom poglavici. Okonkwo je zadobio poštovanje svog naroda zbog svoje čudesne hrvačke vještine kada mu je bilo osamnaest godina, i održao je zbog svog napornog rada kao zemljoradnik i zbog svoje ljubavi za zemlju. On nehotice ubije jednog svog rođaka i prisiljen je, po običaju, proživjeti izvan svog sela sedam godina.
