En el trabajo se hace referencia a varias obras del siglo XVII dedicadas a la empresa de la que el hijo ilegítimo del emperador fue protagonista. / This article focuses on the piece by Pérez de Montalbán El señor don Juan de Austria and on the representation that is given in it of the battle of Lepanto, entrusted to a story a posteriori made by don Juan himself as Governor of Flanders. In this paper, reference is made to several works of the seventeenth century dedicated to the endeavours of which don Juan was protagonist.

La batalla de Lepanto ocupa un lugar de excelencia en la Historia y enLiteratura de España, un capítulo que ha servido para crear una conciencia común degloria del pasado. Más allá de Cervantes, muchos han sido los autores, contemporáneosal complutense y posteriores, que han contribuido a magnificar la mayor empresa bélicadel siglo XVII y, con ello el carácter heroico de los españoles que en ella batallaron. Noobstante, hay textos en los que, contrariamente, este aspecto memorable se vioempañado por el surgimiento de obras que ofrecen una visión muy distante de laasumida como oficial. Este es el caso de La Austríada, un texto de carácter cronístico enque se ofrece un retrato de los ejércitos españoles en el escenario lepantino formado porsoldados no profesionales, entre los que la delincuencia y la piratería eran las actitudesmás frecuentes.

La batalla de Lepanto ha sido estudiada y discutida principalmente por losacadémicos en relación con las monarquías directamente relacionadas con el MarMediterráneo. Las regiones alejadas suelen estar lejos de su interés en respecto al tema.Mientras tanto, la visión del mundo de Felipe II de Habsburgo sobre la cuestión turcaera mucho más amplia, por no decir que estaba fuera de todo límite. Uno de los efectosde la victoria de Lepanto fue su participación en actividades diplomáticas dentro de laRepública Polaco-Lituana. Especialmente desde el año 1572, cuando el trono del estadopolaco-lituano se convirtió en electoral, la oportunidad fue de gran importancia. Larivalidad entre la Monarquía Hispánica, Francia, pero también el Imperio Otomano y elPapado se trasladó a un nuevo teatro geopolítico en Oriente. La autopercepción deFelipe II después de Lepanto y su política anti turca no llegó a la nobleza del estadopolaco-lituano. El monarca español no sabía o no entendía la situación geopolítica delestado polaco-lituano. Como resultado, el Habsburgo español sufrió una amarga derrota,pero siguió manteniendo su presencia en este nuevo espacio geopolítico.

An Analysis of the Iran-Afghanistan Relations after the Taliban Takeover of 2021

The year 2021 was turbulent for Afghanistan as it saw the United States military withdrawal after twenty years and the Taliban’s takeover of the country. The Iranian regime supports the stability and prosperity of Afghanistan. Both countries are bound by strong economic and cultural ties. This article examines the history of Iran-Afghanistan relations and the links between Tehran and the Taliban. The study presents the key aspects of their cooperation that are vital to their national interests. This article uses a qualitative content analysis of the secondary literature on the two regimes with the purpose of explaining the essence of their two approaches, stemming from a blend of religious, historic, and economic causes, which shape politics and social sectors in both countries, and link them with the priority areas regarding the bilateral relations between Iran and Afghanistan

Turks and Tatars in Romania in the Bilingual Edition of the 𝐷𝑜𝑏𝑟𝑢𝑗𝑎 / 𝐷𝑜𝑏𝑟𝑜𝑔𝑒𝑎 Newspaper

This article analyzes the content of the bilingual edition of the Dobruja newspaper, which was published between 1919 and 1924 in Bazargic (present-day Dobrich). Until 1921, it was published in Romanian and Ottoman Turkish, and later only in the latter. Dobruja is important because it was the first bilingual newspaper of the Muslim community in interwar Romania that existed for a long time. Also, the main authors of the articles published in this newspaper were important figures of the community, such as Halil Fehim (the mufti of Caliacra County), Mehmet Niyazi (the national poet of the Tatars and a Turkish language teacher at the Muslim Seminary in Medgidia), and Ibrahim Themo who had an Albanian background and was an important leader of the Young Turks. After presenting the context in which the Dobruja newspaper came out, the article analyzes the content of bilingual editions from three perspectives: the demands that the Turks and Tatars made before the Romanian authorities, the organization of the community, and international developments. The author points out that the main idea encountered in the articles published in the newspaper is that the Turkish and Tatar minority was a safe one for the Romanian state because it had no territorial claims. This message was important, given that Southern Dobruja had an ethnic composition in which the Romanian ethnicity was a minority, and that the territory was claimed by Bulgaria. Thus, the reiteration of this by the elites of the Turks and Tatars was necessary for the attempts to obtain the satisfaction of some demands and support in the initiatives to improve the situation of the community. The Dobruja newspaper was the means by which this message was conveyed.

This paper deals with the use of the visual in representing politics in the newspapers and journals in Bulgaria during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This is done by using data from one illustrated journal – Ilyustratsia Svetlina (Illustration Light), and from one humoristic newspaper – Balgaran. The question about the role of the visual images in the coverage of politics and politicians is discussed, as well as the use of political cartoons as a powerful way of political communication. The author seeks to answer the question of whether in Bulgaria, like in Europe, this period was transformative for the way political themes were covered.

The work and lives of the most important foreign and Bulgarian architects who contributed to this wave of modernization are examined in detail. The study is a serious investigation aimed at both a specialist audience and an interdisciplinary readership.

History as a school subject has been present in the curricula ever since the establishment of the Bulgarian secular education, and over the years the study of history began to be given more and more importance in our educational system. Society‘s perceived need to acquire knowledge about the past is the only opportunity to better understand the present and anticipate the historical perspective. The radical changes that occurred in Bulgarian society in the second half of the 20th century led to the establishment of a completely new kind of educational system, built on the Soviet model as comprehensive and universally accessible, but at the same time politically burdened with the forcibly imposed new moral and ideological conjuncture. This process was most clearly visible in the arts, among which the discipline of History suffered particularly hard the long-term defeat of its ideologizing and outright falsification. The proposed research examines the political justification of the main historical concepts studied during the period of socialism, the development of the methodology of teaching history in schools between the reforms in 1948, 1959, 1968 and the follow-up of the situation after the end of the totalitarian regime in 1989 until the reform in 2002.

The 8th Primorski Infantry Regiment is one of the famous Bulgarian regiments. It took an active part during the wars for national unification of Bulgaria. During the Second Balkan War, while being part of the Second Brigade of the 4th Preslavska Infantry Division, the Regiment fought in Macedonia in the area around the Zletovska River (June 17 – 23). Primorci distinguished themselves although facing an enemy numerically superior to them in the battles at Ratavica, „Razbiy glava“ Height, the villages of Neokazi and Drenak, they withstood the enemy’s pressure against Mount Ozren and managed to push out the Serbs with a bayonet attack at Beli and Yastremnik. Despite being very tired in the context of the continuous fighting with the Serbs, the soldiers of the 8th regiment continued to stand at their combat positions until their final withdrawal to the Kalimansko Plateau.

There are two Qur’an manuscripts in the collection of the Kórnik Library (Poland) – BK 1716 and BK 2676. Th e fi rst one, dating from the 17th century, is rich in diff erent types of scribal errors and serves as an interesting example of ways of amending them. Th e second one, dating from the 15th century, includes interesting illuminations and calligraphy. Th is paper is a detailed analysis of these manuscripts, including their covers, decorations and scribal errors.

„Каква промяна на времената“ – цар Фердинанд I в изгнание в Кобург (1918–1948)

The biography of Tsar Ferdinand I of Bulgaria has been repeatedly examined. Often, the focus is placed on his years as Prince and Tsar of Bulgaria. At the same time, the period after 1918, during which he spent a significant portion of his time in Coburg, the ancestral home of his family from Saxony-Coburg and Gotha, has received little attention in research. The present essay delves into these years of exile and explores the development of Ferdinand from the autumn of 1918 until he died in 1948. It presents the former Tsar of Bulgaria as a “private individual”, describing his everyday life away from grand politics and portraying him as a patron, supporter, and scholar. Finally, the essay discusses Ferdinand’s role during National Socialism, contextualizing it against the backdrop of the development of his Coburg homeland and his relationships with Jewish individuals.
