Vatican II (1962–1965) issued the keyword aggiornamento – modernization – when the Roman Catholic Church was a policymaker in a situation where the Church looked forward to renewing its contacts with the meanwhile modernized world that had gone lost for the Church. During the last years of his pontificate Pope Benedict XVI sent a radical message to Church and world, wishing to consolidate the Church for a better missionary capability – thus there appeared a message for Church entitled Entweltlichung that incited after his so-called Freiburg speech (25.09.2011) a large number of public speeches. Entweltlichung (Unworlding) as the pope formulated it, was not a sociological, political nor legal but theological category, and more specifically, missiological one. The actual intention of the Pope’s speech was the mission of the Church, the participation of the Church in the mission of God as a tool of the gospel. The requirements to the Church are to be understood on the basis of the mission: on the one hand, keeping the distance with the world, in order to keep the message of the gospel acute, and, on the other hand, to be open to the world, in order to fully contribute to the mission of God.

For many people the church is a place of refuge and solace, a place where they may feel comfortable and closer to God. But for some the church represents a mirror of their personal failures, and a reminder of the fact that they are „not good enough.” While for many, belief in God is a way of overcoming anxiety and turning to God is a valuable tool for gaining strength against anxiety disorders, for some people church could be a place that creates fear or gives way to thoughts that end up in anxiety or panic attack. While panic attacks may occur during church service or other church activities, this article offers a presentation of crisis intervention with a special focus to panic attacks. After that we continue with discussions on the issue of panic at pastoral visitations.

In the current study we present the conclusions of a research conducted in 2012 investigating the attitude of Reformed communities in Sf. Gheorghe towards people with disabilities. It is obvious that Reformed congregations are insufficiently informed about the situation and the possibilities of people living with disabilities. Disabled people are absent from the congregations and their integration into the community is still a problem to be solved. By presenting the current regrettable situation, we would like to sensitise the Reformed congregations and en-courage them to take initiatives for the amelioration of the situation.

The neurologist, psychiatrist and philosopher, Viktor E. Frankl is considered the founder of the third psycho-therapeutic movement of Wien, the existential analysis and logotherapy. He formulated his views in an era in which the widespread anthropological view, determined by the instinct and interweaved by metapsychological presuppositions of Freudian psychoanalysis, Adlerian individual psychology and Jungian analytic psychology, proved to be insufficient to explain and interpret certain processes and manifestations of human life. The anthropology of the above mentioned trends lacked the transcendental dimension. Amidst the dominant mechanistic psychological constructions of his time, Frankl succeeds in reclaiming the validity of a spiritual existence in humans. As a result, his psychological interpretation and spiritual counselling open new dimensions in the area of psychotherapy.

Theoretically speaking, in the three-part basic model of communication – speaker, speech, and listener – the speaker is responsible for only 1/3 of the effective communicative process. But in the practice of preaching, the role of the preacher’s personality seems to be more crucial than this ratio. Therefore, “who is preaching” is a very important question to pose from both the viewpoint of theology and the viewpoint of empiric research. There is a real tension between these viewpoints. According to theology, the message does not depend on the personality of the preacher, yet human experience contradicts this. This study aims to present what history, the Bible, the psychology, and the praxis say about the personality of the preacher.

Divorce remains a profound theological challenge in every age of Christianity. How can we preach about a text unfitting the practices of our age vis-à-vis the conjugal ethics? In order to strengthen contemporary marital relationships, one needs to understand and evaluate the specific contexts of this teaching within Jesus’ time, during the age of the Early Church and in our era respectively.

The article consists of three parts. In the introduction, it is stated that there are a lot of different ideas and theories about secularism, and some short highlights are given, positively as well as negatively. In Poland, secularism is different from secularism in the Netherlands, one of the most secularized countries in Western Europe. In the second part, the author shows how, as a local pastor, she experienced secularism during the last five decades: indifference, loss of commitment and biblical knowledge, also concerns about office bearers, closing of churches, the loss of feeling for the sacramental life of the church, closing of several theological faculties, etc. On the other hand, the positive side of secularism is not only about more authenticity and elasticity in the Church (less obligatory duties), but also the abolition of slavery, more freedom for women and children and more freedom for minorities. In the third part, the author shows how we take up new challenges, including new forms of episkopè, pioneer places and the music event of the Passion. She closes with some open questions waiting for answers. The answers are very important for the ecumenical movement as a whole.

In this study, we discuss the attitudes of György I Rákóczi, prince of Transylvania and his wife, Zsuzsanna Lorántffy, towards education. First, after clarifying that the widely known painting depicting Zsuzsanna Lorántffy is not in fact her portrait, we examined the couple’s own education. We are convinced that this has determined the couple’s later behaviour, their relationship to education and the church. Biblical piety has been a very important element in their lives. They have grown up in this spirit since their childhood. They read the Bible every day, it was an integral part of their lives, as evidenced by their writings in their Bibles. Their piety, life, attitude, and church policy were based on the Bible. The education, whether in the lives of their own children, in educating their household, or in the establishment and support of educational institutions, has also manifested itself in an extraordinary way. We can say that György I Rákóczi and Zsuzsanna Lorántffy were neither typical parents, nor typical prince and princess. Besides trying to offer their own children the best education and teachers, they did not forget about educating their servants and their peasants on their estate. This is evidenced by their abundant donations, their orders, the gratitude of the teachers in the institutes, the lives and thanksgiving of the many preachers who receive many great opportunities and support.

The Configuration of Priesthood after Christ – Head, Shepherd and Spouse of the Church. The purpose of the present paper is to fathom the mystery of the priest’s identity in relation with Christ (Christological horizon) and with the Church (ecclesiological horizon). The main perspective is that of the “unifying conformation” of the priest with the priesthood of Christ, through the work of the Holy Spirit, by the intermediary of the Holy Ordination. In the same unique connection of the ordained minister with Jesus Christ his identity is inscribed and rediscovers itself in connection to the Church. The present study delineates the main characteristics of the priest as sacramental representation of the Head of the ecclesial body, as extension of the Great Shepherd of the flock, and as transparency of the heavenly Spouse, since he ontologically partakes to Christ’s status as leader, shepherd, and spouse of the Church.

The Christian Family – the Foundation of the Vocation. Family is a deep communion of life and love, established by the Creator and regulated by His laws. It is the strongest bond that can exist between a woman and a man. The concept of family is closely connected with its monogamous nature. In the sacrament of marriage spouses receive a grace from Christ, which is intended for the perfecting of love and for strengthening their indissoluble unity. Nowadays, marriage is experiencing a crisis. It would be worth showing the marriage not only as a covenant, communion or institution, but as a vocation (the act of summoning which is connected with the mission of fulfilling a specific task). The essence of the Christian vocation deriving from baptism; is a dialogue between the freedom of God and of the man, preceded by the choice of a person and commissioned by his mission. It is the sacramental marriage that is the way to connect with God, follow Christ, which is the most appropriate way for a married couple to walk to holiness. Therefore, an important message for the contemporary is to show marriage as a vocation that is addressed to two people and should be accepted and implemented by them.
