It is also a place for the analysis of stereotypical thinking about these types of relations in Poland. How African-American ‘Race Records’ Became Obfuscated by ‘Rock ‘n’ roll’ within Transatlantic ‘Cover Versions’

When references are made to the development of ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll’ music during the Twentieth Century, they usually focus upon two episodes as related within two conflicting versions. Disparities are the product of perceptions formed both by observers in the UK who reacted to artists from the USA, and observers in the USA who reacted to artists from the UK. The overlapping biographical accounts of both artists and audiences have been melded together into one universal story, but it is far from being a genuine recital of events. Original works were often derived from the African-American community, who in the days of racial segregation had no way to protect their financial interests. Consequently, racial sources were intentionally obfuscated by ‘cover versions’ in order to maximize profits by adapting material to appeal to a wider, bleached culture by the media conglomerates that created legislation to protect their commercial interests. While resulting ‘cover versions’ frequently lacked originality, sensitivity and cognition of original works, on occasion counter-copy-productions eclipsed the originals. But over time a ‘cultural stew’ became blended beyond the point where original components are now discernible, which has prompted this re-examination of the happenstance ‘recipe’ that resulted in a Transatlantic fare known as ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll’.

Many figures of speech used in the Hindu texts of medicine, literature or philosophy, be they comparisons, metaphors or metonymies, are based on the ontological polarity of the human body and its natural environment, a dialectic of health and gardening, of self-discipline and the tilling of the soil. We study here one of these syndromes which in Sanskrit is named yogakṣema, well-being defined as the peaceful enjoyment of the fruits of action. De nombreuses figures de style dans les textes hindous de médecine, de littérature ou de philosophie, qu’il s’agisse de comparaisons, de métaphores ou de métonymies, sont fondées sur une polarité ontologique entre le corps humain et son environnement biologique, une dialectique entre la discipline de soi et le travail de la terre. Cette étude est consacrée à l’un de ces complexes d’idées que désigne le mot sanskrit yogakṣema, le bien-être comme jouissance paisible des fruits de l’action.

Languages as Intangible Cultural Heritage: About an ‘Ecolinguistic Capital’

The spreading of few ‘powerful’ languages to the detriment of numerous ‘weak’ languages has led to the endangerment of many idioms, a process caused by three main factors: linguistic imperialism and globalization, the language policies traditionally adopted by nation-states, and language shift. Some theoretical frameworks justify the impoverishment of linguistic diversity according to an instrumentalist viewpoint, while others support linguistic diversity. Two documents by UNESCO, for instance, underline the importance held by languages in relation to the I(ntangible) C(ultural) H(eritage), not only as vehicles of culture, but also as part of the ICH themselves. Other theoretical frameworks stress the importance of linguistic diversity according to both an ecolinguistic perspective and a rights-oriented approach. From these starting points, the expression ‘ecolinguistic capital’ is proposed to designate that particular intangible capital by implying an anthropocentric view, and composed of three interrelated elements: languages, individuals and places.
