Published in 2021 at Pro Universitaria Publishing, Bucharest, the book „American Exceptionalism between Utopian Dream and Reality”, written by Dana Rus, is an endeavour on the structure, function and role of the idea of exceptionalism in the construction of the American identity. At the same time, a specific endeavour of the author is the analysis of the exceptionalist attitudes in relation with reality. If the relevance of the idea of exceptionalism in articulating the American identity cannot be questioned, the arguable aspect is – including through the perspective of contemporary events – the extent to which the exceptionalist assertions represent or not a correct or demonstrable reflection of reality. This book approaches this problematic area of the American identity and of its specific modalities of representation.
