The article analyzes Boris Pasternak’s Poeziya (Poetry) from the cycle Neskuchny Sad. The cycle is the kind of a link between two poetic books of Boris Pasternak: Sestra moya– zhizn’ (My sister – Life) and Temy i variatsii (Themes and variations). We dwell in detail onthe comparison of this text with the poem Opredeleniye poezii (Definition of poetry) from thebook Sestra moya – zhizn’. We are mainly interested in the asemantic level of texts – theirsound and rhythmic organization. The analyzed structure allows us to trace the dynamicsof the images and the changes that took place in the poetic style of Boris Pasternak in the 1920s.

The article analyses the images of female terrorists in a novel of Roman Gul, a first-wave Russian emigrant. The members of the Socialist Revolutionary Party, including women, committed two well-known terrorist acts, i.e. the assassination of the Minister of the Interior Vyacheslav von Plehve and the murder of Grand Duke Sergey Alexandrovich.

The paper deals with the nostalgic motives in Adam Mickiewicz’s sonnet The Ackerman Steppe, expressed in the imagery of the poem, and their reflection in Russian translations, which were published in different periods from the 19th century up to our times. The author examined how the epoch and the translator’s position influenced the perception of the images.

Emotions put their imprint on all language levels and, most likely, are manifested in almost all appeals. The paper analyzes the appeals, synonymous with the word “grandmother”, which perform pragmatic and expressive functions. On this basis, we call them emotives and emotives-regulators. Some nuances of their use in Russian, Belarusian and Slovak are described. The positive national and international emotional meaning of the appeals under consideration is underlined.

Language game can take place on different language levels: phonetic, graphical, lexical-semantic, word-formative, morphological, syntax, and even pragmatics, stylistics etc. In the given article the lexical aspect of the language game is considered. Many cre¬ative language potencies are revealed most fully and brightly on the lexical-semantic level. Separate attention is paid to entimological units - lexical units which are described in the entimological dictionaries; as well as to the so called “anti-proverbs” - abnormal paremi- ological units.

The analysis comprises a stock of 414 Polish loanwords selected from the dictio- nary of Smolensk dialects. In the article the following problems are discussed: the stock of loanwords, periods and the process of the borrowing. Most of the words were borrowed as a result of direct language contacts. Some of the words were borrowed through Belar- ussian. The majority of them were borrowed in the 17th, 19th and at the beginning of the 20th century.

The paper is concerned with the aspects of communication during the acts of worship by Russian Catholics. The liturgy and rites are performed in contemporary Russian language. The material was excerpted from the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The paper provides a description of the liturgical model of interpersonal communication during services and the linguistic indicators of its components. The units were grouped according to the criterion of participation in the communication situation involving the sender, the receiver and the communication channel, i.e. liturgy.

This article discusses three models of the assessment value - functional, poly- spherical and experiential. Drawing on the data within Russian explanatory dictionaries and texts containing language units of the opposition, represented in Russian National Corpus, the author describes the features of the presentation of these models, each of which has different contents value and different factors influencing the development of the evaluative semantics.

The article deals with figurative meanings of nominations of the social hierarchy relating to the upper, middle and lower strata of Russian society of the 18th and 19th centuries, and their reflection in the explanatory dictionary of the beginning of the 21st century. The use of adjectives, formed from personal nouns in the Russian National Corpus in the period 2000-2017, is analyzed.

The paper refers to one of the types of diagrammatic iconicity singled out on the basis of the similarity of the form of the sign in a sequential order to the content. The text discusses coordinate and subordinate phrases which embody the principle. The pa- per emphasizes the differences existing between them in terms of the freedom of order of structural components. Further, it compares the source text and the target text applying the sequential order principle as tertium comparationis.

The aim of this paper is to introduce and describe the term “circular motion” viewed from the perspective of the conceptual metaphor in Russian. While misinformation and propaganda have existed since ancient times, their importance and influence nowadays - in the age of social media - is still not clear. Re- cent social and political events, such as the controversial Brexit referendum in the United Kingdom and the narrow win of Donald Trump in the U.S. presidential election of 2016, have led to a wave of interest in the phenomenon of “fake news” - described usually as a piece of fabricated information that disseminates deceptive content or distorts actual news reports, shared on social media. Despite being a new term, “fake news” has also evolved very quickly and rapidly. The present article attempts to analyze how the term “fake news” is being developed in recent years. The article characterizes this relevant social phenomenon linked to cheating, misinformation and manipulation and also proposes its classification and definition.

The purpose of this article is to present the results of the research on the use of dictionaries and parallel texts in the translation process. Examples of collocations in legal texts were used in the research, and the resulting comparison shows the presence (or the absence) of the equivalents of the original units in the respective languages.
