Determining of the Optimal Device Lifetime using Mathematical Renewal Models

Paper deals with the operations and equipment of the machine in the process of organizing production. During operation machines require maintenance and repairs, while in case of failure or machine wears it is necessary to replace them with new ones. For the process of replacement of old machines with new ones the term renewal is used. Qualitative aspects of the renewal process observe renewal theory, which is mainly based on the theory of probability and mathematical statistics. Devices lifetimes are closely related to the renewal of the devices. Presented article is focused on mathematical deduction of mathematical renewal models and determining optimal lifetime of the devices from the aspect of expenditures on renewal process.

Advancing Pole Arc Offset Points in Designing an Optimal PM Generator

In this study, the offset points which locate at the pole arc of the designed 1 kW direct-drive permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) have been changed based on parametric approach, and a performance rise for the designed generator has been observed by changing offset parameters. In order to obtain efficient physical sizes and electrical values of the designed generator, the pole arc offset points have been taken forward gradually by using finite element methods. The effects of different offset points on the generators performance have been simulated and interpreted graphically. It has been shown that changing pole arc offset sizes has decreased harmonics distortion and magnet weight in designing 1 kW PM generator. As a result, the 1 kW PM generator has been obtained with high efficiency, less harmonic distortions at sinusoidal wave and less PM weight at whole generator weight.

An Innovative RFID-Based Solution to Secure Parking Spots for Physically Challenged

Using RFID Technology is increasingly integrated in our daily life. We are presenting in this paper the secured parking spots for physically challenged -SPSPC- system implementing the RFID technology for managing parking slots of physically challenged. We demonstrated using scenarios (car with tag, car with expired date tag, car without tag) that the -SPSPC- system is able to recognize not only cars equipped with tag -then send accordingly welcoming SMS -but also cars without tags by checking with a step tag fixed in the wall. Operational mode of the -SPSPC- system is illustrated as well as main components, methods, snippets of code and interfaces are presented and commented. In addition, we demonstrated how the -SPSPC- system is providing the tracking of people committing repetitively these violations -by reporting them to the authorities- and generating statistics on parking occupancy rates helping in providing sufficient slots.

Predicting Bidding Price in Construction using Support Vector Machine

The bidding price can directly affect the construction firm business, so the decision what price to bid for a new project in order to sign a contract is a difficult and responsible decision. Data for fifty four tenders were collected from construction firms. Only data for twenty six tenders were contracts which were signed and used for further analysis. A model for forecasting the bidding price was developed. The model uses support vector machine. DTREG software package was used for predictive modeling. The obtained prediction was very accurate with only 2.5% error (mean absolute percentage error) of the model.

CUDA Based Speed Optimization of the PCA Algorithm

Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is an algorithm involving heavy mathematical operations with matrices. The data extracted from the face images are usually very large and to process this data is time consuming. To reduce the execution time of these operations, parallel programming techniques are used. CUDA is a multipurpose parallel programming architecture supported by graphics cards. In this study we have implemented the PCA algorithm using both the classical programming approach and CUDA based implementation using different configurations. The algorithm is subdivided into its constituent calculation steps and evaluated for the positive effects of parallelization on each step. Therefore, the parts of the algorithm that cannot be improved by parallelization are identified. On the other hand, it is also shown that, with CUDA based approach dramatic improvements in the overall performance of the algorithm arepossible.

Specific Pressure and Mechanical Properties of the Alternator Flange from EN AC 47100 Alloy in HPDC Technology

The technology HPDC (High Pressure Die Casting) of metals represents accurate casting which approximates the most ideal effort of direct change of basic material to finished product. The die casting itself is characterized by mechanical method of casting with the molten metal being forced-in under high pressure (specific pressure) into the divided metal mould by a plunger acting upon the melt in the filling chamber. The HPDC technology has in recent years achieved an expansive growth in the volume as well as the range of production and that is particularly in aviation and automobile industry. The presented paper deals with the experimental assessment of the impact of specific pressure on the mechanical properties of the alternator flange from EN AC 47100 in HPDC technology.

Mathematical Model of Thermo Hydraulic Processes in Venturi Apparatus with Rectangular Cross Section

The cleaning processes of polluted gases in high velocity gas streams based on water flushing, as well as the heat and mass transfer mechanisms in Venturi apparatus, are well known in engineering investigations. Flowing processes in Venturi apparatus with rectangular cross section are also not unknown process in scientific literature. The modeling of flow process in Venturi apparatus with rectangular cross section with real shape and dimensions are related in this paper. Thereby, special attention is paid to the reviewing of the flowing processes in gas-flow path, particularly in the confusor, the throat and the diffuser of the Venturi apparatus.

Analysis of the Haulage Ropes on Ropeways in Case of Accidental Loads

The proven safe operation and the high availability of aerial ropeways is mainly thanks to their design. This is based on the manufacturer’s extensive experience as well as the strict application of the relevant rules and norms. In that regard, this paper describes an analysis of the haulage ropes on ropeways in case of accidental loads. In solving this problem, analyzed ropeway system with sufficient accuracy was modeled as a system with three degrees of freedom. For solving differential equations we have used the software “Wolfram Mathematica”. At the end of the paper, we discuss the results of the dynamic forces in the haulage ropes in a certain time interval, and the results of the safety factors which in this case are sufficient to ensure reliable operation of the system.

Monitoring of the Production Process in Mass Production of Dimensionally Accurate Products

The main goal of the presented paperis to assess the capability of the measurement system and then evaluate the process capability in mass production of plastic moldings. The goal is to perform the measurement of a dimension characteristic serving to assess the capability of the measuring system or measurement equipment and capability of production process. After the measurements were finished, measurement capability was evaluated through the analysis of the measurement system and capability of the production process with the help of capability indices Cp, Cpk. Based on the analysis of measurement system it will be evaluated if the capability of the measurement system is acceptable.

A Comparative Analysis of University Information Systems within the Scope of the Information Security Risks

Universities are the leading institutions that are the sources of educated human population who both produce information and ensure to develop new products and new services by using information effectively, and who are needed in every area. Therefore, universities are expected to be institutions where information and information management are used efficiently. In the present study, the topics such as infrastructure, operation, application, information, policy and human-based information security at universities were examined within the scope of the information security standards which are highly required and intended to be available at each university today, and then a comparative analysis was conducted specific to Turkey. Within the present study, the Microsoft Security Assessment Tool developed by Microsoft was used as the risk analysis tool. The analyses aim to enable the universities to compare their information systems with the information systems of other universities within the scope of the information security awareness, and to make suggestions in this regard.

FEM Aided Design of Distribution Transformer

Computer aided procedure for design of distribution transformer is implemented on transformer type ETN 50-1-/0.4 a product of “EMO” company. All transformer parameters are calculated in Matlab as well as operational characteristics of voltage variation and efficiency factor at different type of loads and variation of secondary voltage for different secondary currents. The obtained results are compared to the experimental data from the producer. Finite Element Method (FEM) is implemented for calculation of distribution of magnetic flux density in transformer cross section for different operating regimes: no-load and rated load. FEM calculations are based on data obtained from transformer design. They enable electromagnetic processes inside the machine to be analyzed and accurate calculation of magnetic flux density to be done.

Experimental Measurements of Belt Gears in Newly Developed Device

The paper deals with the alternative of determination of state of the belt gear. To realize themeasurements a newly developed device was designed for measurement and diagnostics of the belt gears. The main task is to detect the V-belt slip expressed by the coefficient of elastic creep and of specific slip with a measuring device. The measurements regarding can be performed if input revolutions of the electric motor and torque of the belt gear are constant whereas the tensioning force of the belt gear changes. It is also possible to perform the measurement if the input revolutions of the electric motor and the tensioning forces are constant and the torque changes.

Development of information technologies is growing steadily. With the latest software technologies development and application of the methods of artificial intelligence and machine learning intelligence embededs in computers, the expectations are that in near future computers will be able to solve problems themselves like people do. Artificial intelligence emulates human behavior on computers. Rather than executing instructions one by one, as theyare programmed, machine learning employs prior experience/data that is used in the process of system’s training. In this state of the art paper, common methods in AI, such as machine learning, pattern recognition and the natural language processing (NLP) are discussed. Also are given standard architecture of NLP processing system and the level thatisneeded for understanding NLP. Lastly the statistical NLP processing and multi-word expressions are described.

Sustainable Global Competitiveness Model as a New Strategic Opportunity for the Companies in Slovakia

Dealing with global competitiveness is nowadays the strategic issue for the Slovak companies in context of sustainability. It means for managers of company to define new future strategic goals, to identify current position in global market, primarily to focus the strategy on sustainable global competitiveness and to assess the competitiveness in new way regarding sustainability and social corporate responsibility. The aim of this paper is to present the contribution to holistic micro and macro economical view on competitiveness of company in context of sustainable development in global environment. The introduced sustainable global competitiveness model is based on our experiences within the research in manufacturing companies in Slovakia. It is a visualization of enterprise as a system with all relation performing in its environment. Sustainable global competitiveness model comprises the three pillar principle of the sustainable development, modified Porter´s value chain, and economical environment represented with Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) and other factors of environment which influence the company.

Living in the twenty first century and being part of a modern society entails being entirely acquainted with the Internet. Business success, research and study rely on intense usage of the Internet, doing most of the activities based on information gathered at the Internet and using diverse kind of services available. The recent development in devices and services, either for computational or mobile operations, has revealed a diversity of paths for the Internet to have impact in our lives, either professional or personal. Without notice, every activity we do is becoming somehow connected to the web in multiple forms that can range from the search of information, the communication between people and information storage at the cloud. Everything seems to be so useful and so destined to promote our life and supply our needs for work, learning or recreation activities. As for the social aspects, Internet has a multitude of opportunities to communicate, to share ideas and to get feedback or news, as it happens, with online newspapers, the blogosphere and social networks. With this pervasive and sometimes implicit integration of the Internet in our lives, we are migrating from traditional way of life to an Internet supported lifestyle with many daily Internet based activities executed by each human being. However, despite this movement of almost putting us in the innards of Internet, we didn’t yet notice a structural change in such infrastructure to cope withour human nature and, in particular, with the way we perceive and feel the world. This article exposes the vision of the authors for a possible shift in Internet paradigms towards effective support of the human nature.

Performance analysis of aodv, dsdv and aomdv using wimax in NS - 2

WiMAX(IEEE 802.16)technology empowers ubiquitous delivery of wireless broadband facility for fixed and mobile users. WiMAX standard describes numerous physical and MAC layer characteristics. Here, an attempt is made to implement some of these physical and MAC layer structures including the mobility extension 802.16e. NS2 (Network Simulator -2) is chosen as the simulator to implement these features as NS2 provides suitable library to simulate network scenario. The performance of the simulated module is analyzed by running AODV, DSDV and AOMDV routing protocols on a wired - cum - wireless WiMAX scenario. The throughput for each routing protocol is calculated for varying number of mobile nodes or subscriber stations.
