Summary/Abstract: The role of a physics teacher is not a mere transfer of knowledge but rather development of a certain way of thinking, understanding of basic concepts, as well as the practical application of knowledge in problem situations. The standard way of examination, lecturing, and traditional tests cannot discover whether a pupil has truly acquired certain knowledge which is in accordance with basic physical concepts. Investigations have shown that formal learning of physics is not satisfactory and a solution is being sought in intellectual activation of students: leading students through the learning process eliciting answers from them, activating all students and maintaining discussion or steering it to the task. The results of the same test done by the students of the first grades of secondary schools in Mostar and by the students of physics at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Education (FPMOZ) are approximately the same, which is unacceptable. Active learning occurs in interactive instruction which covers a number of different methods, while the efficiency depends on the skill of the teacher.
