Summary/Abstract: A fable is one of the teaching materials playing significant roles on the child’s development in the perspective of education and culture. A child growing up with fables learns realities of life in advance by concrete examples. This research is the descriptive study based on scanning model. In this study, the concept of fable was defined, and the necessary qualities which it must have were determined. Later, 23 fables in the book of Turkish Fables written and collected by Naki Tezel from various regions of Turkey were studied. Heroes in each fable were separately determined. The roles of defined heroes in the fables were also described. Moreover, it was tried to explain that at what perspective do the heroes and positive and negative messages in the fables influence to the child’s development and psychology.
