Summary/Abstract: The problem of life after death has been the concern of many biblicalauthors. At first, there were only allusions to eternal life, and only with timedid the doctrine of the resurrection of bodies become outlined. This processof development of thought includes Targum Neofiti 1, which often addressesthe issue of the “world to come”. The New Testament, on the other hand,is in many places a continuation of the targumic ideas that link the two partsof the Bible. This paper therefore presents the development of the biblical ideaof eternal life from the Old Testament, through the targumic texts and up to theNew Testament eschatology. Terminological references are shown as well asa similar understanding of many eschatological concepts. The idea of “the worldto come” allows a deeper insight into the message of salvation proclaimedby Christ.
