Summary/Abstract: The study examines scandal as a cultural phenomenon and is relied on Lotman’s article over the shame and fear in the cultural mechanisms. The nature of the so called quiet scandals here is presented in different areas of the culture: science, literature, history, everyday life. As human acts there is a great quiet scandal between Aristotle and Plato, passed over silence or excused by cursory arguments all the time, which has hard consequences until now.
