Summary/Abstract: The Bishop of Buzău, Filotei (1805-1860), was a patriot hierarch, in harmony with his own time realities and social and political goals (he occupied the Bishop chair starting with 1850. He proved concern toward his fellows; humble and generous, he avoided – and hated – public exposure. He was also an ardent fighter for the Romanian Principalities Unity and a passionate for culture, several religious books being printed in Buzău. Arrived from Transylvania, Bishop Filotei did not forget his native lands and hold strong ties with Transylvanian intelectuals, among them Andrei Şaguna being the most proeminent personality
