Summary/Abstract: The re-birth, on the map of Europe, of the Polish state, after one hundred and twenty three years of absence, on very complicated internal and external conditions, raised a series of problems also for the Great Powers. They faced the same dilemma, also present in Polish internal policy life: the emerging of a Nationalist or Federalist Poland. At older Great Powers skirmishes the Soviet-Polish war (1920-1921) forced the European Powers to support or reject the Polish federal project. This paper present, based on published diplomatic documents, the mentioned topic and, also, the relations with Lithuania
