Summary/Abstract: The Union of Bessarabia with Romania involves both a historical discussion and a political one. Practically, the two World Wars proved that Bessarabia was the key of the bilateral relations between Romania and Russia (Soviet Union). Moreover, the animosities which had appeared between Moscow and Bucharest would influence the bilateral policy after the fall of communism as well. In such circumstances, we mean to analyse the way in which the French diplomacy approached, at the end of World War I, the issue of the Union of Bessarabia with Romania. What we want to prove is that, although France was Romania’s most important supporter at the Peace Conference of Paris, its action was, however, at times, oscillating and undetermined.
